Jon Bellion concert worth losing sleep on school night

Jon Bellion is a pop singer who came to Kansas City, MO, Oct. 11 for his third Human Condition Tour at The Midland Arvest Bank Arena. The most upsetting part about the concert was that it was on a Wednesday, so I wasn’t as excited to go as I would have been on a Friday or Saturday.

My friend and I arrived at the concert about an hour early to line up for general admission, and the line was already wrapped around the building. People had been there for hours. We waited in line for a little over an hour before doors opened at 6 p.m., and people were slowly getting let into the building one by one.

The entire concert was general admission, which I prefer, so we could sit or stand anywhere in the building. We decided to go to the ground floor to get the closest view possible. We were standing about five people away from the barricade, but there was very little standing room, and everyone was squished together.

After waiting about 30 minutes, the first opening act, Clark Beckham, came out and performed four songs. His performance was memorable, he had a great voice, and beautiful lyrics. Most people in the crowd, including me, had never heard of him, but Beckham still entertained the audience.

There was about 10 minutes between each opening act. The next performer was a rapper named Blaque Keyz. He was entertaining to the crowd, I had already known of him so it was nice to see him live. Blaque Keyz also performed songs that were unreleased, which the crowd really enjoyed. After Blaque Keyz performed another 10 minutes passed, and then the next act, Travis Mendes came out. He got really close to the crowd by interacting with them and jumping off the stage to connect with them. Mendes got the crowd hyped up, and I loved that about his performance.

Finally, after sitting through three opening acts, Jon Bellion came out about 30 minutes after Mendes. Bellion opened with the song “He is the Same,” and as soon as the music came on, the crowd started screaming and jumping to the music. Throughout the concert Bellion played old and new songs, which was great, because you got a feel of his old music and his newer songs. His songs have a groovy feel that made them easy to dance to. During the concert the microphone volume was a little low and sometimes I couldn’t hear what Bellion was saying over the people screaming next to me. This made it a little harder to enjoy the concert and sing along.

As the concert was ending, people started to leave early during songs to avoid traffic, which brought my friend and I closer to the stage. Bellion sang “Hand of God,” and then left the stage for about five minutes. The crowd cheered for an encore, and Bellion came out and sang an old song, “Jim Morrison.” After the song was over, Bellion gave a speech to the crowd about how grateful he was for his fans, and left the stage, ending the concert.

Overall, the concert was amazing, and I would love to see him live again. I got home at around midnight and still had homework to do for school the next day, because it was unfortunately on a Wednesday night.
