The boys’ basketball team had their state tournament hopes dashed in the first round by Andover Central for the second year in a row March 8 in Salina. The final score was 68-60.

Andover ran out to a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Piper cut that to 28-23 at the half, and at the end of the third quarter, the game was tied at 43.

The Jaguars took the lead back at the start of the fourth quarter and stretched it to as much as eight points, but the Pirates continued to fight.

After a Tamar Bates three with just over a minute left, the lead was down to 59-56, but Piper was forced to foul, and Andover never gave up its lead.
