On Friday, March 8th the Lady Pirates basketball team took on Nickerson. The winner of the game would advance to the Kansas 4A State Championship. The Pirates managed to come out with an easy win of 72-40.

The championship game will be at 4:00 at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center. The girls will be taking on Bishop Miege.

“It feels really good. It’s definitely a big accomplishment for us and we are proud,” said sophomore Evelyn Vazquez.

In the semi-final the Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never let it go. They ended the first quarter at 18-8 and dominated the game from there.

“I thought we played really well and it was nice because it strengthens us for tomorrow’s game,” said junior Riley Porter.

The Piper Pirates and Bishop Miege both have undefeated records and are looking for a State Championship victory.

The Pirates recipe for winning is simple, “good defense and playing our game,” said sophomore Jessica Thomas.
