The varsity softball team improves to a 3-1 record with a split with the Paola Panthers Tuesday, March 26 at Paola.

“It was a good series. We should’ve came out with two wins but not all of us were on. We need to continue to improve as a team,” said senior Macey Nigh.

The first game, Piper got on the scoreboard early but Paola began to pull away. The Panthers scored six runs in the fourth inning and went on to win 15-3. However, in the final game of the series, it was a shootout. Paola took the early lead in the first, but the Pirates answered back. The Pirates scored four runs in the second inning and kept the hot bats going. Piper went on to score 20 runs and take the game, 20-12.

“It felt good to play the way we are used to after losing the first game.” said head coach Scott Teufel.

Teufel got in the win column once again as the new varsity head coach. He has high expectation for his new team.

“My expectation is to win every game we play,” Teufel said.

The Lady Pirates continue the season with a double header vs Tonganoxie on Tuesday, April 2nd. The games will take place at home around 4:30 and 6:00 o’clock.

“It’s been a good start to the season and we want to keep it up,” said junior Emma Serrano.
