The track meet at Lawrence Free State was just like any other. However this one had something in store for seniors throwers Cooper Beebe and Lemoses White. On April 21, Cooper Beebe and Lemoses White broke school records for throwing events. Beebe, who broke the shot put record with a throw of 58’2, was ecstatic with the throw.

“I knew it was a good throw. I’ve been wanting to beat that record,” said Beebe.

White threw a 169’1 to break the Pirates school record for discus.

“It was fun. I enjoyed the meet and breaking the record that I broke,” said White.

The previous holders for these events were Jonathan Ortiz and Miciah Noel.

“I knew it would be broken eventually. I’m happy for my boy Coop,” said alumni and former shot put record holder Noel.

For Beebe and White, they aren’t finished this season quite yet.

“I would love to break my own record, but I am more focused on performing good and qualifying to state” said White.

Both throwers are looking to go far in state this season. If they both qualify for state, they both would have 4 meets to try and break their records.

“If I could break my own record, that’d build confidence and would mean a lot to me,” Beebe said.
