The Piper Pirates have started the 2019 season off with a bang. They have outscored their opponents 131 to 19. The offense has displayed an electric scoring ability led by junior running back LaJames White.

White has started the season with 16 total touchdowns and 900 all-purpose yards. Most of the scoring load has fallen on White’s shoulders, as he has scored over three-quarters of the team’s touchdowns.

“The offense will keep progressing at practice and will work to get better,” White said.

The Piper Pirates defense has also held opponents to just 6.3 points per game as well as recording 4.7 sacks per game. The defense is led by junior Brandan Martin who also led the State in tackles last year, and currently has 58 total.

“He maintains high expectations for his teammates, and he is constantly around the ball,” said coach Matt Storrer.

What hindered the Pirates last year was their four-game losing streak after winning their first three. Senior tight end Jack Robinson ,who has 1 touchdown on the year, has hopes to stay away from a losing streak.

“We are more comfortable with one another and if we stay away from injuries we should be fine,” Robinson said.

The Pirates take on the Louisburg Wildcats this Friday, a team that beat them last year 28-21.
