Craving Chinese, but also in the mood for some sushi? Now, thanks to Saki Asian restaurant, you can get both all in one stop.

Saki, located in the Barry Woods area of Kansas City, Missouri, offers an eclectic mix of Asian fusion food, including Chinese, sushi, Thai and Vietnamese food. It is fairly high-end, and one should expect to spend a large sum of money for this dining experience.

The decor of Saki is tranquil, which provides a good counterbalance for the hectic atmosphere in the restaurant. The restaurant is clean and dimly lit, and the furniture was comfortable and updated.

The theme of the decorations is clearly Asian, which is appropriate, and the restaurant did a great job of not looking cheesy or racist. The atmosphere was a major positive for the restaurant.

The main draw of Saki, however, is the food. I began my meal with an appetizer of a spicy tuna sushi roll, which was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. It was authentically prepared and felt fresh, in spite of the fact that it clearly isn’t. It’s difficult to find quality sushi in Kansas City, but Saki knocks it out of the park.

Following my delicious sushi, I proceeded to my main course of the night, which was the Vietnamese pho soup. The pho itself was a traditional dish. The base dish contains rare steak, noodles, cilantro and a light broth. In addition, it comes with optional bean sprouts, green onion, jalapenos and sriracha sauce. One can create the pho as spicy or savory as they desire. Like everything else on the menu, it was top notch.

I finished with a dessert of mochi ice cream, which was a little odd due to the hard exterior and creamy inside, but still worth trying. I had the red bean flavor, which is a popular one in Asia. It was delicious.

Overall, the experience and food of Saki makes it the go-to place for Asian food in the metro area. Although it’s pricey, it’s worth every single penny.
